If rumours are believed, a long-term Rangers target is set to become available for transfer.

According to Goal.com, Liverpool are willing to let Ben Woodburn leave Merseyside this summer.

And it wouldn’t be a big surprise if Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was all over this.

Gerrard, who managed Woodburn at youth level for the Kirkby academy, has been linked with moves for the Wales international in 2018 and 2019.

The 20-year-old evaded Gerrard on both occasions, joining Sheffield United and then Oxford United in two loan spells, but maybe it’s third-time lucky for the Rangers manager – if he goes back for him.

With Liverpool winning the Premier League title this month, it’s harder than ever for young players to break into Jurgen Klopp’s senior side.

Is Woodburn going to be playing ahead of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino or Mo Salah anytime soon? In a nutshell, no.

It makes sense that his future is away from Merseyside and Gerrard should ask the question.

After all, the club’s iconic midfielder has signed a few players from his old side over the past two years – Ryan Kent, Sheyi Ojo, Ovie Ejaria – and now would be a good time to stake a claim for Woodburn.

Injury or not, his loan spells down South haven’t worked out and if the Rangers boss genuinely wanted him, he might be there for the taking this time.
