Everton are reportedly keen on Chelsea left back Abdul ‘Baba’ Rahman.

According to Ghana Soccernet, Everton are interested in signing Chelsea left back Abdul ‘Baba’ Rahman, who is currently on loan at Schalke.

The Toffees have an ageing defence, with goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg and central defender Phil Jagielka both 34, whilst another central defender, Ashley Williams, is 32, meaning a younger back line should be targeted.

Leighton Baines turns 32 later this month, and with the Daily Mail claiming that there are question marks over his future at Goodison Park, we could see manager Ronald Koeman target a new left back.

Now, Ghana Soccernet report that Everton are keen on Chelsea’s Abdul ‘Baba’ Rahman, who is currenty out on loan with Bundesliga side Schalke until the end of the season.

Rahman, 22, joined Chelsea in the summer of 2015 having starred in Germany with Augsburg, but he struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, starting just 11 Premier League games in a miserable year in West London.

The Ghanaian is now impressing with Schalke, and his performances have not only triggered interest in a permanent deal from the Bundesliga side, but now appear to have caught the eye of Everton too.

It’s stated that Everton see Rahman as a player who can replace Baines in the long-term, with his pace and crossing ability vital for the Toffees as they look for Baines’ successor.

With Africa Cup of Nations commitments on the horizon and the rest of his loan deal to play out, Rahman appears to be a target for the end of the season rather than in January, but Everton’s reported interest in the Chelsea flop adds more credence to the suggestions that Baines is fighting for his future under Koeman.
