Long term Leeds United target Anthony Limbombe reaching new heights

Leeds ended up moving for Hadi Sacko instead.

Leeds United have scoured Europe in recent seasons looking for potential stars and one they came close to signing was Anthony Limbombe.

Leeds had a £1.5 million bid rejected for Limbombe in 2015 and continued to track him for another year [via YEP] before he ended up signing with Club Brugge instead.

In his second season at the club, Limbombe is hitting top form.

He is being tipped for a World Cup call up into Belgium’s international squad.

Manager Roberto Martinez told Voetball Krant earlier this month that he is monitoring Limbombe’s form ahead of the tournament.

He would face a tough test to start ahead of the likes of Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne, but simply being a back up to the illustrious regulars would be huge recognition.

The 23-year-old has scored five goals and provided seven assists this season, a huge improvement on 2016/17 when he scored just once.

Leeds meanwhile ended up moving for Hadi Sacko on loan and then permanently, and he is yet to justify the move.

If Limbombe does make it to the World Cup, Leeds failure to sign him will certainly look like a mistake.
