The injury-prone maestro is set to remain at Lyon until at least 2018.

Clement Grenier is without doubt one of French football’s top talents. The 24-year-old, who has been compared to Samir Nasri in playing style, has therefore seen himself linked with a move to the Premier League on several occasions.

Grenier is a long-term target of both Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Arsenal were most recently linked with the player last summer, while Sky Sports reported that they failed with a bid for the player in July 2013.

Newcastle have had great success in the Ligue 1 market in recent times and were linked with a move for Grenier last summer by The Chronicle.

Of course since then the interest has rightly faded. Grenier has earned a reputation for being injury-prone of late. He has played just six times this season because of a persistent thigh strain.

Now he is putting all links in the past behind him. He has signed a two-year extension to his deal at Lyon, keeping him at the club until 2018.

He confirmed the news himself via his official Twitter account:

Now the young midfielder will be hoping to simply stay fit and get back to his best as soon as possible.
