Confirmation over Isaac Hayden’s Newcastle United exit could come today after the Premier League outfit accepted a loan bid from Belgian outfit Standard Liege.

With Belgium’s transfer window remaining open until September 6th, one of Eddie Howe’s forgotten men has until the close of play on Wednesday to dot the I’s and cross the T’s on his contract at Standard Liege.

Fortunately for Isaac Hayden, Newcastle United are not exactly minded to stand in his way.

One of the longest-serving players in Howe’s squad has not made a Premier League appearance for the Magpies since a 4-0 drubbing by Manchester City in December 2021. And, with the likes of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes earning their wage at St James’ Park these days, Hayden feels like little more than an unwanted reminder of more traumatic days on Tyneside.

After discussions with Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday, Sacha Tavolieri reports that Hayden put pen to paper with Standard Liege on Sunday. He will move to the Belgian outfit on loan, confirmation potentially just ‘hours’ away.

“Standard and Newcastle United are currently sorting out the final administrative work for the confirmation of Isaac Hayden’s loan deal,” Tavolieri writes on Twitter. “As a reminder, the player has already signed yesterday. And confirmation is expected in the coming hours.”

Howe, who’s Newcastle side have now lost three successive top-flight games after Evan Ferguson’s ruthless hat-trick at Brighton, confirmed all the way back in May that neither Hayden nor Jeff Hendrick were part of his plans going forward.

Hendrick has since joined Sheffield Wednesday on a temporary basis.

“I had those conversations with the players last year about training away from the group. Only so I could control the numbers I was working with,” Howe told The Chronicle at the start of the summer. “I don’t anticipate that changing to be honest.

“They’ve done very well and been great servants to the football club. We certainly respect them. But sometimes you need a clear break and focus on the players who will play a part in the season.”
