Albert Sambi Lokonga has revealed that Nicholas Pepe is Arsenal’s most skillful player, claiming that he scores wonderful solo goals in training.
Arsenal spent £72 million on the Ivory Coast winger back in 2019.
And although he certainly has a bag of tricks, Pepe has been criticised for his lack of consistency – even by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
In recent games, Arteta has axed the former Lille winger from his first XI and it has to be said that Arsenal’s form hasn’t suffered.
The Spaniard dropped him for the North London derby and Arteta’s side blew away Tottenham on the day, before leaving him out of the first XI for a trip to Brighton a week later and although he had a cameo at the Amex, it was a poor one.
Nevertheless, it seems that the 26-year-old does regularly impress at London Colney.
When asked who Arsenal’s most skillful player is, Lokonga told a Q&A via their YouTube channel: “Pepe. Sometimes he can take the ball he can dribble [past] three or four people and score!”
Huge asset
Talent wise, Pepe can be such a monstrous player for Arsenal.
He ticks a hell of a lot of boxes but, again, it comes down to consistency and it doesn’t matter how skilled you are in numerous different areas if you can’t do it on a regular basis.
That’s the single biggest thing that has held him back for the past two years at Arsenal, consistency.
Arteta has gone blue in the face talking about for much of the past two years and he’ll hope more than anyone that the player can come good.
