Leeds United are hoping that they can earn promotion to the Premier League during the same season where they have celebrated their 100th birthday.
Leeds United’s local rivals have mocked their plans to expand Elland Road to 50,000 if they earn promotion to the Premier League.
Angus Kinnear has stated that he hopes Elland Road can become a ‘true ground’, which can compete with some of the best grounds across Europe, as quoted by The Yorkshire Evening Post.
Of course, Leeds have to earn promotion to the Premier League in order for them to push through with this plan, but that didn’t stop some rival fans from mocking the comments made by Kinnear.
Many made it clear that it won’t happen because the club won’t earn promotion to the Premier League, as Leeds will no doubt be hoping to shut everyone up by ending their long-wait away from England’s top-flight.
These plans from Leeds come on the back of them celebrating their 100th birthday, and the club will be hoping to end it in the best way possible by earning promotion in May.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side battered anyone that came in their way during the first half of the last campaign, but they stopped throwing the punches during the second half of the season, which ended up proving costly.
It resulted in them capitulating in a dramatic fashion in front of their own supporters, as they saw Frank Lampard’s Derby County create history during that second-leg play-off semi-final tie.
Whether Leeds are in the Premier League or they have dropped down to the third tier of English football, they have always had strong support, both home and away.
So, there’s no reason why Leeds cannot fill their stadium if they do earn promotion and the capacity is increased, but the hardest part is reaching their destination first.
