Going out on loan is often a vital step in a young player’s career, but it can surely feel like more of a hindrance when there is a managerial change changing the landscape of their parent club.
One instance of this is at Rangers, where Pedro Caixinha has come in to replace Mark Warburton and started handing chances to young academy stars, as he experiments ahead of next season.
Myles Beerman and David Bates are the latest to profit, but players out on loan like Jordan Thompson and Matt Crooks must feel like they are missing their chance.
In the case of Thompson, 20, he is now set to get an opportunity to impress Caixinha.

He is on loan at Raith Rovers where he has featured regularly this season, but he has now revealed he has been invited back to train with Rangers once a week so Caixinha can take a close look at him.
Speaking to Belfast Live, Thompson said: “I’ll be going back (to Rangers) on a Wednesday for the last few weeks of the season just to be training with them and so the manager gets to see me before we break up for the end of the season.
“I’ll go back and start pre-season and hopefully get into the manager’s good books and push on.”
This is a golden opportunity for Thompson to ensure he can stake his claim before Caixinha finalises his summer transfer plans.
