The Dutchman has been recovering from injury back in the Netherlands.
In the summer Newcastle United decided to bring in a new goalkeeper in the form of Belgian stopper Matz Sels, to challenge with Karl Darlow for the number one spot at St James’ Park. His arrival came after injury ravaged spells for the club’s two most experienced stoppers. Rob Elliot was one, whilst Dutch international Tim Krul was the other.
Krul has not played for Newcastle since October 2015. He then suffered torn knee ligaments playing for Holland v Kazakhstan and has not featured since. In the summer he was sent out on loan to Ajax, seen as the perfect replacement for Jasper Cillessen, who joined Barcelona.

But he could not force Cameroonian stopper Andre Onana from the number one spot and did not feature for the club.
With that in mind he switched loan clubs. He headed to fellow Dutch side AZ Alkmaar until the end of the season and today celebrated his first win at the club.
He sent this message on Twitter after the game, highlighting his joy at the win over league rivals Heerenveen:
Krul will be hoping for a future at Newcastle still, after spending 12 years at the club.
But for now the 28-year-old’s aim is to help AZ to a high finish in the Eredivisie.
