Arsenal missed out on the Premier League title despite beating Everton at the Emirates Stadium on the final day of the season.
The Gunners went into Sunday’s clash with The Toffees needing a big favour from West Ham United.
David Moyes needed to pick up a result against Manchester City to give Arsenal any chance of claiming top spot on the final day.
West Ham fell to a 3-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium but Arsenal almost didn’t do their part of the bargain.
Everton took a first-half lead through a deflected Idrissa Gueye free kick before Takehiro Tomiyasu hauled Arsenal level.
Arsenal left it late to find the winner as Kai Havertz handed Arsenal a 2-1 victory.
It wasn’t enough to claim the title though as City’s win guaranteed their fourth straight Premier League crown.
Arsenal loanee Mika Biereth wins title
Arsenal didn’t get what they wanted on the final day of the season and end the campaign empty-handed.
That isn’t the case for loan striker Mika Biereth though.
The Gunners talent spent the first half of the season out on loan at Motherwell, smashing six goals and five assists in just 15 games.
Arsenal scrapped that loan and gave him a new challenge, sending him to Austria with Sturm Graz.
The results have been sensational with Biereth hitting nine goals and four assists in 22 appearances.
Biereth’s time in Austria has been superb – and it has just got even better.
Sturm Graz simply had to win on the final day of the season in order to win the Austrian Bundesliga title.
Red Bull Salzburg were right over their shoulder, ready to pounce on any slip-up as Sturm Graz hosted Austria Klagenfurt on the final day.
Even just claiming a point would allow Red Bull Salzburg to take top spot on goal difference.
The goals took a while to come but they did arrive with Sturm Graz winning 2-0, securing their first league title in 13 years.
Biereth wasn’t on the scoresheet but he played his part in Sturm Graz’s run to the title, ending 10 years of Red Bull Salzburg dominance.
This makes Biereth a double winner having also secured the Austrian Cup with a win over Rapid Wien in May.
What next for Biereth?
Arsenal’s first team have missed out on silverware this season but Biereth will head back to North London as a winner.
Winning in the Premier League is entirely different to winning in Austria but winning a double at just 21 will be huge for Biereth.
The striker will join up with Arsenal for pre-season and will be looking to catch Mikel Arteta’s eye in the process.
That’s a big ask and it seems more likely that Biereth will be heading elsewhere this summer.
Another loan or even a sale – just like Folarin Balogun last summer – could make sense for Biereth, who will be celebrating as Arsenal stars rue missing out on the Premier League title.
