Charlie Cresswell has been quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post as saying that he is planning on staging talks with Leeds manager Jesse Marsch and Victor Orta. He is open to leaving the club on loan.
Cresswell, 19, was crucial to the Under-23 side that gained promotion to the top tier of Premier League 2 in 2020-21. He also made his senior debut during the campaign, under Marcelo Bielsa.
This time around, he has added six more first-team games to his CV. But Leeds have numerous options at centre-back and Marsch prefers to play with a back four. He is probably fifth choice at Elland Road.
Diego Llorente, Pascal Struijk, Liam Cooper and Robin Koch are blocking his path into the starting line-up. So, Cresswell told reporters while on England Under-21 duty that he will have talks with Marsch and Orta this summer.
“That’s for me to discuss with Jesse and Victor over the next few weeks and see where that takes me,” Cresswell said, as per the YEP. “But, ultimately, I would like to play more football, whether that be a loan or that be at Leeds. We’ll see.”

Towards the end of the campaign, Marsch raved about Cresswell: “Personality, he is not afraid of anything. Even the first session we had he was the loudest player on the pitch. Does not shy away. He needs to play.”
While Cooper is still at the club, and Struijk looks better at centre-back, Cresswell needs to go out on loan and get first-team football. He is good enough to break into the Leeds side, even in the Premier League.
But he is unlucky in that Leeds have options at centre-back. Arguably the only position in the squad where Leeds are well-equipped. A loan move to a high-flying Championship club is needed this summer.
