Speaking on the Under the Cosh Podcast, Kieran Trippier has been discussing his departure from Tottenham Hotspur.

As many Spurs fans will remember, Trippier didn’t have the best of seasons before he left Tottenham, but many may not know that the right-back was playing most of that season injured.

Indeed, Trippier says he had a double hernia that required surgery from Christmas onwards, but for one reason or another, he wasn’t allowed to have surgery on his issue.

The full-back says that this was one of the arguments that contributed to him leaving Spurs, stating that there are many incidents that haven’t been publicised that led to him departing the club – suggesting that he didn’t leave on the best of terms.

Trippier’s sour departure

“When you had that hernia were you just on the anti-inflammatories?” Trippier was asked.

“Yeah, I was just on anti-inflammatories, paracetamol. I knew at Christmas time that I needed surgery. There was me, Christian and Ben Davies at the time who needed surgery. Davies and Christian had surgery and I didn’t. It was one of my arguments ‘why am I not allowed surgery?’ There’s loads of things people don’t know about that were building up and were the icing on the cake why I left. I hold no grudges against Tottenham, I wouldn’t be in this position now if I didn’t go there, so I have a lot to thank them for,” Trippier said.

Poor

It’s not good to hear that Spurs didn’t treat Trippier correctly during his time at the club.

Not allowing him to get surgery on a double hernia is borderline barbaric, and it sounds as though there were a few other underlying issues in north London for the full-back.

When you have a player as talented as Trippier, you need to be doing all you can to keep him happy, but Tottenham failed drastically on that front it would seem.

Unfortuantely for Spurs, Trippier is now flying at Newcastle and the north London club have to live with the regret of letting him go.
