Demba Ba has claimed, perhaps jokingly, that he could be tempted back to Newcastle United after this week’s development.
The Magpies are under new ownership after Saudi Public Investment Fund completed their takeover at St James’s Park on Thursday.
This has been four years in the making and it’s someting of a double whammy for the United fans.
Not only are Saudi PIF have assets worth a couple hundred billion, but it also spells the end of Mike Ashley’s controversial reign with the North-East club.
A number of high-profile former players at Newcastle have welcomed the news.
And Ba has quipped on social media that he could come out of retirement to return to the club, where he enjoyed a goal-laden 18 months during his career.
Is Ba going back?
Well not as a player, no.
The 36-year-old former hitman retired from the game last month and although it isn’t too late to take his boots back off the shelf, it wouldn’t be for a return to Newcastle United.
But the legendary Senegalese striker is well aware of that, evident by the cheeky wink emoji in his tweet.
During his time at United, Ba netted 29 goals in 51 Premier League starts – a fine return and one that facilitated a move to Chelsea.
