Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe has emphatically rebuffed speculation linking star striker Luke Jephcott with a move to Nottingham Forest, Derby County or Sheffield Wednesday, while speaking to Plymouth Live.

When a striker is scoring at such an impressive rate in the third tier, it is only natural that clubs higher up the Football League will take notice.

According to The Athletic, Chris Hughton’s goal-shy Nottingham Forest side have shown an interest in Jephcott, a lethal, one-touch finisher who has been compared to none other than Harry Kane.

The Sun, meanwhile, believes that a further six Championship clubs have been watching the League One hotshot like a particularly hungry hawk.

Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke and a Derby side with just 21 goals in 29 games this term are apparently among them.

But Lowe has wasted little time in pouring a gallon of cold water on the speculation pyre.

“It’s a load of bull, whoever it is coming from,” said Lowe, adding that COVID restrictions would not allow interested suitors to send their scouts to Home Park.

“I’m not saying there isn’t interest in Luke Jephcott but I think the clever clubs and people who do it properly go about their business right.

“I know probably two or three clubs who would be definitely interested in him, but they don’t have to go and say ‘We are watching this, we are watching that’.

“He is probably one of the hottest young prospects in the country at the moment so there is definitely going to be interest, but there has not been any interest from any of those clubs to us.”

The Wales U21 international has scored 18 goals in 29 games during a fabulous breakthrough season at Plymouth.

Speaking in January, Lowe claimed that Jephcott is unlikely to be sold for a penny less than £3.5 million.
