Sheffield Wednesday are in something of a rut, having won only once in their previous five matches.

In particular, their previous two matches have resulted in a draw and defeat against previously low-lying opponents Burton Albion and Aston Villa.

Now the Owls sit just inside the playoff positions, with Fulham hot on their tails with a game in hand. If ever Wednesday needed to buck a trend, it’s in Friday’s match versus Reading.

The match-up between 5th and 6th is a particularly spicy one, especially as neither side are in a good run of form – in fact, both Reading and Sheffield Wednesday have won an identical set of points from the past 6 games.

Having both lost to teams lower in the league in their previous match without scoring, the pressure will be on both sides to come out of the starting blocks quickly.

The Owls will be hoping that Jordan Rhodes manages to add to his 3 goals and 1 assist that he’s currently notched up.

They can only hope that, as well as Reading, their other playoff rivals start to falter slightly – aside from Reading and Wednesday, Brighton are the only side in the top 8 to lose more than once in the previous 7 games.
