What could the next few seasons have in store for young Liverpool player Lloyd Jones?

Much has been said about Liverpool’s current defensive options, with some impressing and others needing to do a lot more next season.

Summer signing Dejan Lovren fits firmly in the second category, while Martin Skrtel has impressed in a new-look back-line; but what of the club’s young players?

While Tiago Ilori may be the young defender many Liverpool fans are expecting to see given a first-team chance next season, there is another even younger prospect who could be pushing for a chance under Brendan Rodgers in the next year or two.

Lloyd Jones signed for Liverpool from Plymouth Argyle in 2011 and he went on to feature prominently for the club’s under-16s.

He then developed at a rapid rate, becoming a dominant and very promising centre-back who has enjoyed loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Accrington Stanley this season.

A place on Liverpool’s first-team bench for a match against Fulham last season showed just how highly-regarded he is despite his age and with a fair amount of senior football under his belt in League Two this season it will be interesting to see what the next few years bring.

Another loan spell looks likely, this time to a Championship side, but could Rodgers even spring a surprise and give him a run-out in the League Cup in the first half of the new campaign?

Only time will tell, but in Jones Liverpool have a player who could become a future Anfield star.
