Hugo Lloris could miss Tottenham’s North London derby clash with Arsenal due to a thigh injury.
Hugo Lloris of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates his side’s third goal during the UEFA Champions League group H match against Real Madrid.
Tottenham Hotspur could be without Hugo Lloris when they return from the upcoming international break to face Arsenal in the first North London derby of the season.
The Guardian reports that Lloris will definitely miss this weekend’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace and also France’s international friendlies against Wales and Germany.
Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Tottenham Hotspur, and Zinedine Zidane, manager of Real Madrid, shake hands following the game at the UEFA Champions League group H match.
That is because the goalkeeper injured the adductor muscle in his thigh during the 3-1 Champions League victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday (November 1).
French national team manager, Didier Deschamps, has said Lloris will miss two weeks of action and therefore will be a doubt for the Gunners’ visit to Wembley Stadium on November 18.
In the 30-year-old’s absence Michel Vorm will deputise, but just how big a blow is it for Tottenham to lose their captain? Well arguably Lloris is just as crucial to the team as Harry Kane.
Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur and Casemiro of Real Madrid battle for the ball.
Mauricio Pochettino was keen to dismiss recent comments from Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola calling his side “the Harry Kane team”, as outlined by Sky Sports, but when the England international is absent it is very hard to fill the void upfront.
While other key players such as Dele Alli, Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen are of course missed when out, they are easier to replace than Kane. The same is true of Lloris.
The skipper is a class apart in his position and a huge influence on the organisation of the defence and general morale as well. While Vorm is a solid professional he does not possess anywhere near the same qualities.
