The Tottenham Hotspur striker has been unconvincing since joining the club in the summer.
Vincent Janssen was unable to provide suitable back-up to the prolific Harry Kane and there are fears that Fernando Llorente could suffer the same fate, with the Spaniard having endured a difficult start to his Tottenham Hotspur career.
Llorente has failed to find the net in his 14 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions since joining from Swansea City in the summer and several of the 32-year-old’s performances have lacked conviction as he has often been unable to have any sort of impact on the game.
Those displays have inevitably sparked comparisons with Janssen, who is now on loan at Fenerbahce.
However, it is worth taking into consideration that Llorente also got off to a slow start at Swansea last season following his switch from Sevilla as he scored just once in his first ten games.
Llorente eventually managed to muster some momentum for the Welsh club and he proceeded to score 15 goals in 35 appearances across all competitons; a respectable tally when his early difficulties are taken into account.
Tottenham need to continue giving Llorente opportunities and perhaps should experiment a little more, playing him up front alongside Kane on occasion, as was the case in the 1-1 draw away to Real Madrid.
With his link-up play and experience, Llorente has the qualities to be a useful back-up option for Tottenham and Pochettino should continue to have faith in him.
