The striker has struggled to adapt since joining Tottenham in the summer.
After 16 appearances, admittedly many of which have come as a substitute, Fernando Llorente is still awaiting his first goal for Tottenham Hotspur following his move from Swansea City.
Tottenham signed Llorente with the intention of him easing the goalscoring burden on Harry Kane, but that certainly hasn’t transpired as, while Kane has scored ten goals across all competitions so far this season, none of his team-mates have scored more than three times.
Llorente will be hoping to avoid the fate suffered by Vincent Janssen, who scored just two Premier League goals for Tottenham last season.
With Mauricio Pochettino’s side already through to the Last 16 of the Champions League and their place as group winners secured, there could be some opportunities to impress for fringe players when Tottenham host APOEL Nicosia tomorrow night in their final group stage fixture.
Llorente will be determined to make an impact more than most as he desperately aims to score his first Tottenham goal.
APOEL haven’t won a game in the Champions League this season and have conceded 14 goals, so this represents the perfect opportunity for Llorente to open his account.
Should he find the net it would surely represent a significant morale boost for Llorente at a time when Tottenham could certainly do with having another prolific goalscorer.
