Former Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso completed his shock move to Porto this afternoon, three years after his Ibrox contract was ripped up – and Rangers fans on Twitter weren’t quite sure what was going on.
The Portuguese defender lasted only 18 games for the Light blues before he was allowed to move on when Steven Gerrard was appointed as Rangers boss, returning to his homeland to sign for Santa Clara.

“I have no words to describe this moment. It’s one of the happiest days of my life, without a shadow of a doubt. I still don’t believe it,” Cardoso told Porto’s official website.
“It’s a dream come true to reach such a level, in one of the biggest clubs in the world. I am very happy and ready to start working.
“I’ve worked for many years to have this opportunity and it finally came. I’m prepared to grab it. It’s the biggest step in my career and I’m looking forward to getting to work and showing what I’m worth.”
Rangers fans had plenty of positive words for the defender after his move – but there was plenty of bafflement among fans who remember seeing him struggling badly in Scotland.
