Virgil Van Dijk has told the Liverpool Echo that not enough people have realised how brilliant Fabinho has been for Liverpool this season.

Fabinho made headlines at the weekend, as he blasted home Liverpool’s opening goal in their 3-1 win against Manchester City on Sunday.

The Brazilian earned plenty of credit for the long-range striker, but Van Dijk thinks that Fabinho should be getting praise more regularly.

“[Fab] has been fantastic,” he said. “He has been cleaning up so many things and so many dangerous moments and everyone is playing their part in the success we have at the moment.

“Sometimes it gets overlooked what he does, it is important for him and us to get the goal.”

Fabinho’s performances at Liverpool have ensured that he is now being discussed as one of the best defensive midfielders in world football.

With the Reds having such a wealth of attacking talent, Fabinho’s power and discipline is crucial to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Fabinho has made a habit of stopping opposition counter attacks with a combination of strong tackling and good positioning.

The protection he offers Liverpool’s backline has been brilliant, and helped others around him to shine.

The Reds’ victory over City has now made them firm favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

Liverpool are now eight points clear at the top of the table, with Jurgen Klopp’s side still unbeaten in domestic football this term.
