Chelsea are currently eight points behind Liverpool as things stand in the Premier League table.
Van Dijk and Liverpool established an eight point lead at the top of the Premier League table, after they beat Manchester City on Sunday.
City are no longer Liverpool’s closest rivals in the current standings, with Chelsea and Leicester City both above Pep Guardiola’s men.
And Van Dijk kept his cards close to his chest, when it was asked if Frank Lampard’s side could prove to be a threat.
“Can Leicester and Chelsea challenge? I don’t know, that is something for you guys to put out in the media,” Van Dijk said.
“They have been doing very well and even if you look at Sheffield United, they are a very difficult team to beat so I know, everyone here as well knows as well how difficult this year will be so we shouldn’t look too much at others teams.
“We should look at the teams we face, it was the champions and we did the job. Hopefully we can keep that focus for the next games.”
Chelsea have performed above expectations so far this season, but they are in excellent form at the moment.
Lampard has his side playing some brilliant attacking football, with their place in the top four starting to look more and more secure.
However, Chelsea will face a huge challenge to keep pace with a Liverpool side who have been absolutely relentless lately.
