Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed to The Liverpool Echo the message that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard recently sent him.

The 20-year-old Liverpool right-back has disclosed that Rangers boss Gerrard, who was appointed in the role at Ibrox in the summer of 2018, congratulated him on scoring for England in their 3-0 win against the USA at the Wembley Stadium in London last month.

It was the right-back’s first goal for England, with the Liverpool youngster having played five times already for the Three Lions.

Gerrard is a former England international, with the legendary Liverpool midfielder having scored 21 goals in 114 matches for the Three Lions during his playing career.

Alexander-Arnold told The Liverpool Echo: “Stevie texted me after to say ‘well done’ and that meant a lot.

“That was something really special. It’s always good to be in contact with someone you look up to so much.

“He’s a busy man with the job at Rangers and it’s great to see him doing so well up in Scotland. It’s exciting for him.”

Touching gesture

It is great of Gerrard to send a short, sweet and simple message to a budding young player like Alexander-Arnold after what is certainly a great personal achievement for the Liverpool youngster.

It gives a glimpse into the Rangers boss’s man-management style, and there is no surprise that the players at Ibrox are enjoying playing under the former Los Angeles Galaxy star.
