Liverpool coach Steven Gerrard is the new second favourite to become Ipswich Town’s next manager with bookmaker, Sky Bet.
Gerrard was 11/1 on Wednesday morning but has seen his odds cut to 4/1 within a matter of hours.
The 37-year-old former Liverpool and England midfielder, who retired from playing two years ago, is now behind only Danny Cowley of Lincoln City (2/1) to succeed Mick McCarthy at Ipswich.
And Gerrard has climbed above seven names – including his former international teammate Frank Lampard (7/1) – to get there.
The Liverpudlian has no senior management experience, but has impressed in his first campaign in charge of the Reds’ Under-18s.
Cowley, Gerrard and Lampard lead Tony Mowbray of Blackburn Rovers (8/1), Jack Ross of St Mirren, Maurice Steijn of VVV Venlo and Shefki Kuqi, the unattached former Ipswich striker (all 10/1), in the Sky Bet market.
