Sporting’s Gelson Martins has impressed again this season.

Liverpool have made it through to the Champions League final this season, with Jurgen Klopp hoping to add a piece of silverware that few expected the Reds to challenge for this season.

A meeting with Real Madrid in Kiev is booked after seeing off Roma in the semi-finals, in which the famed front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah once again ran riot.

The trio are simply sensational, and whilst they have driven Liverpool to the final of the Champions League, Klopp should have some concerns about the depth behind them.

With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – now more of a midfielder anyway – now out injured, Liverpool’s main cover out wide is youngster Ben Woodburn, and having been somewhat fortunate that Mane and Salah have stayed fit this season, Liverpool need to address their depth this summer.

Adding another speedy winger to bring off the bench and feature in the side in place of Mane or Salah should be a priority, and it would be little surprise to see the Reds return for Sporting winger Gelson Martins.

BBC Sport reported that Martins had emerged as Liverpool’s alternative target to Salah having feared they were being priced out of a deal by Roma, but when a deal for Salah was struck, interest in Martins was shelved.

The Portuguese wide man, 22, has hit 11 goals and eight assists in another fine season for Sporting, and given his trickery and his blistering pace, he fits the bill for what Liverpool would need to cover for Mane and Salah.

A new Liverpool move could see them hijack Tottenham, given that The Mirror claim Spurs are interested in adding Martins to their squad this summer – and if a deal is possible, Klopp should certainly look into rekindling his interest in Martins.
