Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho have become integral parts of the Liverpool side over the past 12-13 months.

Liverpool’s Brazilian forward duo of Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho have told the club’s official TV channel about the improvements that have been made in the side with Jürgen Klopp.

Both Firmino and Coutinho have seen their games go up a level under the German. Firmino has become the main central striker and reliably provides end product, while it was one area of Coutinho’s game that seemed to need improving.

The relationship between the two has also seen a positive effect for the Reds.

Coutinho told LFCTV: “He gives confidence to the players. I think today we believe more in our own potential and that has made us better on the field.

“He always asks for the same thing: hard work with a lot of dedication. It’s a team that puts a lot of pressure on the opponent and that is what he asks us to do, keeping the ball. So they are the same things.”

Belief and hard work seem to be important ingredients to any good side at the moment, and the hard work is certainly paying off at the moment with the side top of the table after the first 11 games of the league season. The test of belief could come later on in the season if the Reds sustain their early season promise, and it develops into a title challenge.

Firmino suggests that over the past year that everyone has been getting used to each other. That could be the players with the new system, but also the relationship between the players and the staff.

He said: “I think that with work we have been doing with the new coach for the last year, we have been getting used to each other.

“We have been improving during the training and in the games we are doing our best.”
