Milner has taken on the role at left-back this season, and has impressed his teammate in the process.

Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne has said that everyone needs a player like James Milner in their side after starting the season in fine form as a left-back, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Milner signed for the Reds with the intentions of playing in central midfield and played all across the middle of the park last season but this term has found himself operating at left-back, and Clyne is full of praise for how he has taken to the role.

Clyne is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “He seems to make it look easy! I’ve trained my whole career to be a full-back and he comes in and makes it look easy! He’s enjoying it and also getting on the scoresheet.

“He’s a very experienced professional – every team needs a James Milner in their side. He can play in any position.”

Milner has started all but one of the Reds Premier League games in that position this season, and has taken to the role pretty well ahead of Alberto Moreno.

There was a lot of concern in the summer when Jurgen Klopp decided against signing a new left-back but those anxieties appear to have eased with each performance that Milner has put in.

A degree of envy is apparent in Clyne’s compliments to Milner about playing the full-back role, with the Reds No. 2 proving to have a good season himself having featured in every game, and has developed the reputation of a Mr. Reliable ever since his move from Southampton in the summer of 2015.

Clyne is currently nursing a knee injury he has been playing with over the past few weeks during the international break, and the Reds will hope he will be available for the visit of Manchester United on 17th October.
