West Bromwich Albion last night were reported by The Telegraph to be in pole position to sign wantaway Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor.
Taylor is out of contract in June and the Baggies are claimed to be in contact with Taylor’s agent over doing a deal.
West Brom would allow Taylor a chance to fulfil his ambition of playing Premier League football having missed out again with Leeds this year, but what about his Liverpool ambitions?

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported in March that Taylor had his heart set on earning a move to Liverpool, believing it could be possible.
Taylor impressed against the Reds in the EFL Cup earlier this season, and Jurgen Klopp’s side need a new left-back with Alberto Moreno suspect defensively and James Milner only a stop gap solution.
So should West Brom fear a late Liverpool hijack?
This is one reason for the Baggies to try and get a deal done early, to steal a march on the competition.
Yet the Reds appear to be prioritising alternative targets.
The Mirror reported this week that Liverpool are targeting established Southampton ace Ryan Bertrand, 27.

Given the way Liverpool have prolifically and successfully targets players from the Saints in recent seasons, there is good reason to believe this could be a goer.
The Liverpool Echo report Liverpool have another Championship talent in mind too, targeting Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, who has broken into the first team at just 16.
With Taylor down their list or even not on it at all, West Brom should feel confident about their chances, and with no interest from the Reds imminent, the Leeds defender is likely to accept the Baggies offer.
