Ever since his comments following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United last month, questions have been swirling around Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield.

Salah returned to the fold under Arne Slot in December, coming off the bench to help Liverpool beat Brighton and Hove Albion. Since then, he has kept quiet about his plans.

He has now joined up with Egypt for AFCON duty, and while he has not addressed his future directly, rumours are still circulating.

The MLS or Saudi Arabia have both been mentioned as possible destinations for Salah in 2026. But new links have started to pop up again.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have now become the latest club linked with a move for the Liverpool forward.

According to Defensa Central, Mohamed Salah has been offered to Real Madrid by his agent as a potential short-term replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is currently injured.

The report claims that Salah’s representatives are sounding out interest across Europe and have proposed a six-month loan deal worth €12m.

But given the significant loan fee being discussed, it is not expected that any agreement will be reached between the two sides.

Liverpool may have backed the wrong person in ongoing Mohamed Salah dispute

Salah is still away on international duty, with his next appearance set for this Monday.

Once he’s back, there is a strong case for Slot to bring him straight into the starting line-up, especially given how much Liverpool have struggled in attack over the past three matches.

But there is also a chance Slot will stick to his earlier decision. Even before the recent comments, he had already benched Salah for three consecutive league games.

Liverpool’s position on Slot did not shift after Salah’s comments, but that could turn out to be a misstep.

While it is never ideal for a player to have influence over managerial decisions, if this situation leads to Salah leaving in January while Slot stays, it might be a decision Liverpool come to regret.
