Liverpool’s Joel Matip is expected to be fit when Chelsea visit Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed to Liverpool’s official website that there is a “big chance” of centre-back Joel Matip being fit for Saturday’s visit of Chelsea.

The 26-year-old missed the 3-0 win over Southampton last weekend and will also sit out tonight’s trip to Sevilla in the Champions League with the same muscle strain.

But Klopp revealed that he expects the former Schalke defender to be fit in time for when the Premier League champions visit Anfield this weekend.

“He is good,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

“I think there will be a big chance he will be ready for Saturday, but there was no chance for this game — it was a little bit too quick, but it’s all good.”

The Reds didn’t miss Matip in a big way last weekend. Then again, Southampton haven’t been ripping the division this season but having him back for the Chelsea clash is a huge boost.

The 26-year-old, like all of Liverpool’s defenders at one point, hasn’t looked at his best, but it is obvious that Klopp’s side are more likely to repel the Blues’ attacking qualities with him than they are without him.

Victory on Saturday would see the Merseysiders move level on points with Chelsea – who sit third at the moment – but only winning by a three-goal margin or more would see them go above Antonio Conte’s men.
