James Milner was sent off in Liverpool’s latest outing last weekend.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed to Liverpool’s official website that the sight of James Milner after Saturday’s 4-3 win over Crystal Palace told him everything you needed to know about the veteran.

Liverpool flashed yet another glimpse of their Premier League title credentials by earning a very hard-fought win over Roy Hodgson’s side at Anfield.

Milner, playing as a right-back on the day, was sent off in the final stages after picking up two yellow cards in 10 minutes

And the German manager reveals that the sight of his ‘completely frustrated’ player in the dressing room, with blood on both knees, reminded him that he has a team of ‘proper warriors’.

“These boys are ready to do that, they are real fighters. It’s a bunch of proper warriors – I love that. They all stick their leg in or whatever,” he told Liverpool’s website.

“If you would have seen Millie sitting in the dressing room, completely frustrated obviously because of the [red] card but both knees bleeding – where can you get that from on that fantastic pitch?”

The Merseysiders, who boast a four-point cushion at the top of the table, flew to Dubai on Monday for a warm-weather training camp, due to having no game this weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup earlier this month.

Klopp is right – he does have warriors at his disposal, and they will need all that fight for the remaining few months as they bid to hold off defending champions Manchester City.

Liverpool haven’t reigned supreme in England for 29 years, and Klopp will become something of an icon at Anfield if he brings back the glory days.
