Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp comments on Manchester United’s Ashley Young

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has told the Liverpool Echo that he thought Manchester United defender Ashley Young was ‘outstanding’ yesterday.

Klopp was impressed by the attitude that United showed, despite their poor start to the season.

And he thought that Young’s display against Liverpool summed up the commitment of United’s side.

Young was tasked with keeping tabs with Trent Alexander-Arnold, and he did not give the Liverpool full-back a sniff.

“The set-up of United was really clear,” Klopp admitted. “They all had an outstanding attitude today, (Ashley) Young jumping on Trent (Alexander-Arnold) as soon as we passed it, and stuff like that.

“We were not really inspired. We did all the predictable things, so they could defend the predictable things. We were not at all unpredictable. We didn’t play real football.”

United switched system to a formation which included five defenders and they seemed to stifle Liverpool’s attacking play.

Young played at left-wing back, and put in an impressive performance as he shut down many of Liverpool’s attacks.

The Red Devils actually unexpectedly took the lead through Marcus Rashford, with Liverpool struggling to break them down.

However, the Reds managed to claim an important point when Adam Lallana scored a late equaliser.

Liverpool now remain unbeaten since the start of the season, while United currently sit in 13th place.
