The Liverpool and Celtic captains are set to go head to head when England take on Scotland

Speaking to the Daily Mail, England midfielder Jordan Henderson has heaped praise on Celtic captain Scott Brown.

The central midfield pair are set to come up against each other when England take on Scotland at Wembley this evening.

Both have enjoyed strong starts to the campaign with their club sides, with Brown impressing under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic and Henderson continuing to shine under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Brown has come out of international retirement to face the Three Lions in this crucial game for his country and while praising him, Henderson has predicted his rival will be right up for the clash.

“I think Scott is a very good player. I have seen him over the years and he is very experienced,” he told the Daily Mail.

“He has been a fantastic player for Celtic for many years and a great leader as well. It will be a difficult game tomorrow and I am sure he will be right up for it and will get his team right up for the game.”

The game against Scotland is the perfect chance for England to make a point to a fanbase that has quickly become disillusioned with the national team.

After the debacle of Euro 2016 and the mess that followed with Sam Allardyce, interest is arguably at an all-time low regarding the Three Lions.

A confident win over their old rivals could go some way to earning back some of that lost confidence and Henderson is hopeful he and his teammates can finally put in a big performance in one of the big games.

“England fans always want us to do well, we know we have good players,” he added.

“We want them to enjoy watching us play. Hopefully, tomorrow is a big occasion and we can show we can perform at the highest level and put on a good performance.”
