Liverpool midfielder James Milner started his professional club football career at Leeds United.
Milner, who can operate as a midfielder, winger or full-back, started his professional club football career at Leeds and played for West Yorkshire outfit until 2004.
The Englishman then moved to Newcastle United, and after turning out for Aston Villa and Manchester City, he made the switch to Liverpool in 2015.
The 33-year-old – who earns £140,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – has suggested in his new book that he is open to a move to Leeds in the future.
Milner wrote in ‘Ask A Footballer: My Guide to Kicking a Ball About’, as reported by The Express: “There would be so many things to weigh up – not just for myself or my family, but for Leeds.
“If I was being released by another club, would they want me? It would be pointless for them and for me if I wasn’t needed at the time and it was just some kind of nostalgia trip.
“You can probably tell from what I’m saying that I love the club, but I also love playing for Liverpool and I want to play at the highest level for as long as I can.
“If my time at Liverpool came to an end and I was going to go somewhere else and Leeds were one of the clubs that were interested in me, then that would be a very exciting option for all the reasons I mention.”
Future Leeds United move
Milner is 33 years of age, and although he is past his prime, the Englishman is still good enough to play at a very high level, as he is doing right now in the Premier League with Liverpool.
It is hard to see Milner – who has won the Premier League title twice with Manchester City and the Champions League once with Liverpool – join Leeds in the Championship, but if the Whites are promoted to the top flight of English football, then perhaps a move could take place.
