Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp addressed the media ahead of his side’s trip to Crystal Palace in the Premier League tomorrow evening.
Liverpool vice-captain James Milner is a doubt for tomorrow’s trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace, the Liverpool Echo live blog reports.
Jürgen Klopp informed reporters of the news at his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow evening’s game, where the Reds will look to keep up their good start to the season and stay among the leaders in the early stages of the season.
Klopp told reporters, as per the Liverpool Echo blog: “We have a few knocks. Millie was ill on Tuesday. Yesterday he did a running session. We will see how he is today.”
The Liverpool boss also updated on the fitness of Joe Gomez, who recently returned to full training after a year on the sidelines because of an ACL injury – and Klopp suggested a behind-closed-doors friendly could be taking place during the international break, which might benefit the defender.
He added: “Joe Gomez looks really good in training but he has been injured for a long time. We don’t need to rush it or put pressure on him.
“During the international break we will have a game and he will play some minutes.”
As well as some good league form which has seen his side go level at the top of the Premier League, Klopp managed to make 11 changes for the EFL Cup match against Tottenham in the week, and they booked their place in the quarter-finals.
Daniel Sturridge scored two goals, and inevitably some will question whether he has done enough to start tomorrow’s game.
Klopp touched on the display in the League Cup, saying: “They played how I expected them to play. I have the same decision to make like before the Tottenham game.”
The Liverpool boss was also complimentary about former forward Christian Benteke, who they will come up against this weekend, and also Palace as a whole, suggesting that they have enough to challenge for a place in Europe next season.
“Palace are a good team and very experienced in defence with high-quality offence,” he continued.
“They have made good signings in the summer and in my opinion they can aim for Europe. They’re a really good team.”
