Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is understood to be a huge admirer of Gomez and he rejected several enquiries from clubs looking to take the versatile defender on loan during this month’s transfer window as he wants to keep him around Anfield.
Klopp is keen to reward Gomez for his progress in returning from injury with a new five-year contract to keep him at Anfield until 2022 and talks are at an advanced stage between all parties.
Gomez joined Liverpool from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2015 and has made nine appearances in total for the Merseyside outfit.
