Milner’s move to left-back seems to have impressed his teammate.
Liverpool’s James Milner celebrates scoring their second goal
Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has told the club’s official website that he is impressed by teammate James Milner’s transformation into a left-back.
Milner has played pretty much his whole career across the midfield but this season has been used at left-back ahead of Alberto Moreno, and seems to have adapted to the role well.
Can – who has experience playing in the back line himself – told the Liverpool website: “It has surprised a lot of people, because it’s not easy to play at left-back from midfield.

“But Millie did it very well and I think he has scored more goals than last year in this time. He’s a very important player for us. He has to keep going like that and the team has to keep going like that.”
Having Milner in at left-back means the Reds have managed to get their main penalty take into the side as well, which has paid off so far this season given he has found the net on four occasions.

He has shown he can be a very useful player on the left flank in a deeper role and has done well in terms of his positioning. It should also be mentioned that Milner is one of the most experienced players in the squad, and having that on the field for much of the season could prove vital all the way through to May.
Jürgen Klopp clearly wanted someone reliable operating in that role and it seems that it is not just the manager that appreciates his efforts so far this season.
