Liverpool star Harvey Elliott has revealed what James Milner ‘was screaming’ at him during their FA Cup win at Wolves. The midfielder scored the only goal of their third-round replay.

The Anfield natives will now face Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round after edging a 1-0 affair at Molineux. Elliott hit home from 30 yards out on 13 minutes after charging into Wolves territory without a home player closing the 19-year-old down before he took aim.

Elliott produced a superb strike to pick out the top corner of a scrambling Jose Sa’s goal. It was just the England Under-21 international’s fifth senior goal through 49 appearances for the Merseyside outfit. He has also registered three assists to date across all competitions.

Jurgen Klopp had rang the changes from Liverpool’s disastrous 3-0 defeat away to Brighton in the Premier League against Wolves. Elliott was among seven changes the German made from the Amex Stadium affair. Milner also came into the starting line-up on Tuesday night.

Elliott has started 18 of his 29 appearances across all competitions so far this season while now netting four goals. He has also laid on one assist this term back in November while his last goal came in October. His only Premier League goal for this campaign came in August.

Elliott reveals Milner’s advice during Liverpool’s FA Cup win at Wolves

Liverpool saw Elliott produce a creative record whilst on loan to Blackburn Rovers over the 2020/21 season. The former Fulham prospect struck home seven and assisted a further 11 goals over 41 Championship outings. He also started 31 times in the second-tier that term.

But his form with the Reds in recent weeks saw that Klopp benched the midfielder away to Brighton on Saturday. Elliott had struggled during Liverpool’s 3-1 loss at Brentford and only played 15 minutes of their initial FA Cup third-round fixture against Wolves that ended 2-2.

Elliott certainly took his chance to show Klopp that he can deliver for Liverpool when they visited Wolves on Tuesday, and has now revealed that Milner encouraged him to take aim.

“I have been judged a bit on assists and goals, and it is something I have been working on, and it came off today,” Elliott told BBC Sport. “Personally, I have felt I have not been at my best form after the World Cup but a confidence booster tonight.

“Milly was screaming ‘shoot’, as well, so I had to go for it. Maybe he can encourage me a bit more to shoot because it definitely worked.”
