Dejan Lovren has been speaking about his first season at Liverpool.
Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has been speaking to the club’s official website about settling at Anfield following his £25million summer move from Southampton.
The Croatian international had a brilliant season at St Mary’s which ultimately led to his big-money switch to Merseyside, but it is fair to say his time at Liverpool has not quite gone according to plan so far.
The 25-year-old has made 25 appearances for Liverpool this season but after missing three league games with a groin injury he has struggled to get back into a side that looks markedly different with a back-three of Emre Can, Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho.
It seems unlikely that Lovren is going to get back into the starting line-up as long as his defensive colleagues remain fit and available, but with the number of matches Liverpool may still have to play this season, he could be a useful asset.
In the interview, Lovren said of Liverpool, “I feel at home now. Every player needs time to settle down and particularly at such a big club.
“The start of the season was not brilliant. But with so many new players, it’s difficult. I think you need time.”
Considering the number of new arrivals at Anfield last summer, it was no surprise they took a while to settle. But manager Brendan Rodgers now appears to have settled on a side that is highly effective, and unfortunately for Lovren, it may also lead to a prolonged spell on the bench at best.
