Liverpool should seriously consider a move for the Serbian this summer.
Liverpool were beaten 3-0 by Barcelona last night, and despite the fact that they played well in spurts, Jurgen Klopp’s baffling team selection left a lot to be desired.
With Roberto Firmino missing out because of a slight ankle knock, Klopp opted to play Gini Wijnaldum as a false nine, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah on the wings.
The Reds’ setup was pragmatic, and it showed, with a lack of any kind of cutting edge in the final third proving costly in the end.
If anything, last night’s result might just push Klopp into spending big on another world-class number nine this summer.
And Eintracht Frankfurt hitman Luka Jović would be just the ticket for Liverpool.
The 21-year-old has been in excellent form in Germany this season, racking up 25 goals in 43 appearances.
Eintracht recently made his loan deal permanent for just €7 million (£6 million), but the Guardian claims that he could be sold on by the Bundesliga outfit for £60 million this summer.
Whilst that seems like a lot of money, in today’s market it would actually be decent value for a player with Jovic’s quality and potential.
The Serbian is an excellent finisher, and he really would be a superb addition for Liverpool, if for nothing else other than to provide genuine competition and cover for Roberto Firmino over the course of the next few years.
The Merseyside club have already been credited with an interest in signing Jovic this summer, according to the Mirror, and Klopp must do everything within his power to bring the striker to Anfield this summer – it could turn out to be a really significant piece of business for Liverpool.
