The Uruguayan media has reacted to Darwin Nunez’s performance for his national team as the Marcelo Bielsa’s side were eliminated from Copa America.
Since former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa took over for the national team, Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has become a different player for the national team.
At one point for the national team, Nunez had scored seven goals in seven consecutive games for Uruguay and looked to be a different player compared to the one that was struggling for consistency for Liverpool.
However, Uruguay suffered a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Copa America semi-final which means James Rodriguez’s side will take on Argentina in the final.

Uruguayan media react to Nunez’s performance
Bielsa’s side struggled to break down a stubborn Colombia side and were eventually punished thanks to former Bournemouth midfielder Jefferson Lerma.
Writing in El Observador, a Uruguayan outlet, the newspaper discussed Nunez’s performance for the national team and awarded the forward a 5/10 rating.
On Nunez, they wrote: “He had the opening and the clearest in the 16th minute after a huge pass from Federico Valverde. They had taken his arm, he hit it just as left-footed and the ball went just wide.
“Five minutes later he showed his power again with another shot, this time, from the right, to the far post.
“He appeared again at 27′ with a shot that went high. They couldn’t beat him. But in the second half, the Colombian defence dealt with Nunez very well and he struggled.”
Nunez set to return to Liverpool under new manager
Now that Uruguay have been eliminated from the 2024 Copa America, Nunez is set to return to Liverpool under a new manager.
Former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is set to take the reins at Anfield in place of Jurgen Klopp and the Dutchman will want to get the best out of Nunez.
Slot certainly has a history of getting the best out of strikers with Santiago Gimenez, who is of interest to Tottenham Hotspur, netting 28 times last season for the Dutch side.
