Losing Jurgen Klopp is a reality that many Liverpool fans never want to contemplate, but sadly, some recent events have increased the probability of the German leaving Anfield in the near future.

Yes, he signed a new contract just a few months ago, but since then, things have been going awry at Liverpool.

First of all, let’s talk about the Reds’ form this season. After just a few weeks of the season the manager conceded that the Merseyside club were out of the title race, and while things are slowly but surely improving, this doesn’t look like the all-conquering team of the late 2010s anymore.

Secondly. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes uncertainty at Liverpool at the moment.

Julian Ward is leaving the club at the end of the season, leaving behind a huge void in the recruitment team, while FSG are now actively looking to sell the football club too.

The fact that FSG are leaving could be seen as a positive by some fans, but let’s not forget, Klopp has always had a good relationship with the owners and The Athletic recently reported that the FSG vision was a main driving force behind Klopp signing his new contract.

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, a dream job may be about to become available for Klopp.

Indeed, Germany have just crashed out of the World Cup at the Group Stages, and after such a failure, one has to believe that Hansi Flick could soon be relieved of his duties.

Klopp, of course, is a German and he’s been open about the fact that he’d like to manage the national team one day.

After Joachim Low’s departure last year Klopp was asked about the job and he didn’t hide away from the fact that he’d like to take over one day.

“There is no way to say, ‘oh, national coach, that would be an interesting job’,” he said. “That would be a great honour without question, but the timing is not right.”

Last year, it was a question of timing, but now, with FSG and Ward leaving and Liverpool faltering on the pitch, Klopp could just be tempted by the Germany job.

The chances are still slim, but it does feel as though Klopp is now slightly more likely to leave Liverpool than he was yesterday.
