Sheffield Wednesday appear to have taken the Liverpool goalkeeper on trial.
Liverpool goalkeeper Ben Williams was named in Sheffield Wednesday Under-23s’ side to face Bristol City on Friday lunchtime.
Although no announcement has been either club regarding Williams’ situation, it would appear that the 18-year-old is on trial at Hillsborough.
Williams has been on Liverpool’s books since the age of six – attracting attention throughout that time from various England age groups – and the Formby native is described by the Reds’ official website as being ‘one for the future’ at Anfield.
However, his presence in Sheffield suggests his time there could be coming to an end, with Wednesday primed to profit.
Should he impress enough to earn a permanent Owls contract, Williams would not be the first goalkeeper with a Formby connection to end up at Hillsborough – after Kevin Pressman.
Pressman – who spent more than a decade as Sheffield Wednesday’s number one – was born in Fareham but spent part of his childhood in the Merseyside town before moving across the Pennines.
Wednesday are spoilt for choice in goal, with their senior options comprising Keiren Westwood, Joe Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson.
