Liverpool defender Andy Robertson came in for criticism for his displays for Scotland last week.

Liverpool’s Andy Robertson has told the Telegraph that he thinks he’s going through exactly what Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher did for 12 years.

Robertson was heavily criticised for his performances in a Scotland shirt, as they fell to two defeats last week.

The Liverpool man is now arguably the finest player in his country, and there are high expectations on his shoulders.

And Roberson feels that he is being put under the same pressure as Fletcher was, when the United man used to represent the Tartan Army.

“That’s something you have to deal with when you go up there,” the £8 million left-back (BBC Sport) said.

“Darren Fletcher dealt with it for ten, 12 years when he was at the top at Manchester United and now I’m facing it. That’s something I have to deal with up in Scotland and I need to deal better with.”

Robertson has not looked the same player in a Scotland shirt as he does when he represents Liverpool so far.

Scotland have to do far more defending than Liverpool, so he is unable to get forward with the same freedom as he is when he plays for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Robertson was once again in good form for Liverpool at the weekend, as they picked up a 3-1 win over Newcastle United.

The Reds have taken maximum points from their first five Premier League matches, to build up a healthy lead the top of the table.
