Liverpool have arguably their strongest squad since they last won the league title.
Jürgen Klopp’s men currently sit in second spot in the Premier League table, although they could be leap-frogged by Manchester United tonight, and some of the football that they have been playing has been quite simply sensational.
The German has built a superb squad at Anfield – one that has had no trouble coping with the recent exit of Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho, and many believe that they are on the verge of achieving something special.
The Ox, who joined Liverpool from Arsenal in the summer, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £35 million, raved about the quality of the squad of players currently present at Anfield, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo:
“Gini (Wijnaldum) wasn’t involved but he has been fantastic all year. There is big competition for places and that does help keep everyone sharp. It is also good to be able to rotate the squad so that when people come in you can trust each other.”
Wijnaldum has made 24 Premier League appearances for the Reds this season, with 19 of those being starts, and has chipped in with just one goal and a single assist – hardly impressive numbers.
The Dutchman is vital to how Liverpool play though, in the sense of breaking up play, and keeping his side ticking over in the middle of the park.
Klopp’s men face Porto at Anfield in the Champions League tomorrow night, before they travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Saturday in a game that could have huge ramifications with regards to the race for second place in the Premier League table.
