Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be hoping to return to action before the season draws to a close after being out with a long-term injury.

In the last week, England once again proved why they are going from strength to strength on the international circuit. But it is something that will be no doubt be hurting Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain deep down.

The 25-year-old has the talent and qualities to play for the Three Lions on a regular basis, but the breakthrough of a number of attacking players has surely seen him fall down the pecking order. Not forgetting he has missed his country’s best period in a very long time.

In the middle of the park, Gareth Southgate has the likes of Dele Alli, Ross Barkley, Jordan Henderson, Jesse Lingard & Declan Rice to choose from. While out on the flanks, the England supporters have seen the emergence of teenage duo Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jadon Sancho.

Last April, Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a season-ending injury during the Reds Champions League tie against Roma, a knee injury which still hasn’t seen him return to action.

When he eventually takes to the field once again, he will be behind a whole list of England attackers who have been thriving in the Three Lions shirt since reaching the semi-final of the World Cup last summer.

Over the international break, Southgate’s side put 10 goals past the Czech Republic and Montenegro, respectively, which further indicated the attacking talent on disposal. Not forgetting their demolition job of Spain in the Nations League last time out.

Either way, Oxlade-Chamberlain, who moved to Anfield from the Emirates for a fee of £35 million during the summer of 2017 [Sky Sports], will have his work cut out if he wants to fight his way back into England’s starting XI. But with someone as a loyal as Southgate in charge, there is no doubt that there will always be a seat available for him.
