Aston Villa have to sell before they can buy – but their hopes of flogging Jordan Amavi to Serie A giants Napoli have taken a hit.

Considering that Alberto Moreno started just one Premier League game after that disastrous performance against Arsenal on the opening day of the season, it’s a surprise that Liverpool have not snapped Napoli’s hand off.

According to The Mirror, the Serie A giants have had a bid of £10.5 million rejected for the former Sevilla flyer. Liverpool, it is reported, want to recoup the £13 million they paid the Andalusian side three years ago.

With Algerian international left-back Faouzi Ghoulam seemingly certain to depart this summer, Napoli are in desperate need of reinforcements at left back. And The Mail claimed that Ghoulam could be sent to Merseyside as part of a swap deal with Moreno, a deal which appears to benefit all parties.

And, considering that this potential agreement concerns two clubs preparing for Champions League football next season, it’s strange to say that Aston Villa may have a vested interest.

No way out

Yet, manager Steve Bruce may be keeping his fingers crossed that Napoli come to their senses and realise that Moreno, who was savaged by supporters for a disastrous performance in Liverpool’s 2016 Europa League final loss to Sevilla, is not the kind of signing that will have Juventus quaking in their boots.

Because L’Equipe claim that Villa left-back Jordan Amavi is another name on their list of possible left-back targets. The Frenchman may be one of Villa’s most naturally gifted players but, with The Telegraph claiming they will have to buy before they sell this summer, they will surely welcome offers for the one-time Nice prospect.

In fact, Amavi even revealed earlier this week that Villa had placed him on the transfer list after he stated that he would feel more at home in the Champions League than the Championship.

However, with Napoli making inroads on a deal with Liverpool, it appears that Amavi may be remaining in the Midlands a little longer.

Consequently, Villa may find that, by the time they have money to spend, many of their top targets have gone elsewhere.
