Liverpool’s ability to sign young players has been quite impressive in recent years, and reports seem to indicate that the Reds might repeat this feat in 2023 for Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko.
According to Sport, the Merseyside club are leading the race to sign the 17-year-old wonderkid with FC Barcelona and Real Madrid also interested in Moukoko, who despite his young age has already played quite a fair amount of football for Dortmund, breaking numerous records along the way.
With Jurgen Klopp showing faith in young players such as Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, it makes sense why Moukoko would want to sign for Liverpool, with the attacker’s contract set to expire next summer with Dortmund seemingly hardly working on tying the forward down to a new deal.
Indeed, Moukoko signing for Liverpool would be quite the coup. And with that in mind, here’s what the Reds’ main starting XI could look like five years from now in 2027 if Klopp is able to bring the German youth international to Anfield next summer.
Ramsay starts at right-back as Alisson remains in goal
This summer saw the departure of Neco Williams and the signing of Aberdeen youngster Calvin Ramsay, and whilst the Scottish youth international is yet to make an appearance for Liverpool, excitement and expectations are high for the teenage right-back.
Whilst the defender will get his chance eventually for Liverpool, there’s a good chance that Ramsay will be a starter for the Reds in the years to come, with Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and Alisson Becker also very likely to also be in the starting XI come 2027.
Another new player in the defence, though, comes in the form of academy talent Billy Koumetio, who at 19-years-old is regarded by many as one of Liverpool’s most exciting defensive prospects in some years and who this season is impressing out on loan for Austrian giants Austria Vienna.
Alexander-Arnold moves to midfield with Elliott and Carvalho
With Ramsay starting right-back, our predicted XI is banking on Trent Alexander-Arnold making the evolution to right-back come 2027, with many tipping the England superstar to one day move from defence and into the midfield given just how suited the fullback’s game is to this position.
Alexander-Arnold’s form this season has been subject to criticism for his defending, and a move to midfield could soon be on the cards, especially with youngsters Harvey Elliott and Carvalho growing into their own this season under Klopp.
The duo have been regulars this season for Liverpool. And although Elliott and Carvalho are slightly too attacking, for now, to work as a midfield pairing, the youngsters have time on their hands to establish a connection deeper in the centre of the pitch that could help the Anfield side to incredible success in the years to come.
2023 Liverpool signing Moukoko leads the line with Diaz and Gordon
Liverpool signing Moukoko is nothing but a rumour, yet given the Reds’ track record at signing young prospects, there’s a strong chance that Klopp will work his magic and recruit the 17-year-old Dortmund star to the Anfield cause next summer.
With Kaide Gordon already on Liverpool’s books, the 18-year-old has broken numerous records with the Reds after making his senior debut last season, becoming the club’s second-youngest ever goalscorer and their youngester scorer in the FA Cup, with more oppertunites expected this season.
Luis Diaz wraps up the attack with the Colombian likely to be well into his prime in 2027 aged 30, with Liverpool supporters hopeful that the winger can replicate Sadio Mane’s form of improving every single season with the Reds following his arrival from FC Porto in January.
