Talented midfielder Edvard Tagseth has revealed that he turned down Everton in order to join Liverpool last summer.
The Norwegian prospect has been hugely impressive for Liverpool at youth level since making the switch from Neset FK but admitted that he could easily have ended up at Everton.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Tagseth said: “I had the choice between signing for Everton and Liverpool.
“It wasn’t that easy, it sounds easy, but it wasn’t really. One of the most important things was that I had a good time and was happy there.
“I was happy at both clubs, but obviously Liverpool is better!”
So far at least Tagseth’s decision to join Liverpool has been vindicated as he has benefited immensely from the guidance of Steven Gerrard, who he idolised as a player.
Tagseth has scored twice and provided four assists for Liverpool’s U18 side this season, while he has also featured in the UEFA Youth League.
The 16-year-old is known for being hardworking and will hope to step up to represent Liverpool at U23 level before the conclusion of the campaign.
Liverpool are determined to enjoy a lengthy run in the FA Youth Cup this season but face a tough task in the fourth round of the competition when they host Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday.
Tagseth, who featured in the emphatic 5-1 victory away to Hartlepool Town in the previous round of the competition, is likely to start against Arsenal, and the game represents an excellent opportunity for him to showcase his credentials on a major stage.
