It isn’t a surprise to see some of Liverpool’s big hitters reportedly attracting the interest of other clubs following their Champions League triumph in June.

When a club like Real Madrid are in transition, and it seems to be in a cycle of every four years, most of the top talents across Europe are being touted to make a move to the Bernabeu, as Liverpool’s Sadio Mane is the lastest player suggested for a move to Spain.

The Express recently reported that Madrid are ready to offer their highly-rated attacker Marco Asensio for Liverpool’s wideman, who enjoyed his best season in a Red shirt last time out.

It would be criminal and one of their biggest mistakes if the Champions League winners agree to such a baffling transfer suggestion.

Senegal international Mane is at the peak of his powers, and at the age of 27, there is a lot more to come from him, which is pretty scary considering the performances he put in last season.

Mane played a huge part in Jurgen Klopp’s side recording 97 points in the Premier League and then going on to win the Champions League in, ironically enough, Madrid.

Last season, Mane scored 26 goals in all competitions, including 22 in England’s top-flight [transfermarkt], as he also played a key role during the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Compare that with Asensio, and the 23-year-old had a completely opposite season to the Merseyside-based attacker. The 23-year-old only scored one goal in the league and he isn’t anywhere near Mane’s level considering the deal reported.

There’s no doubt that Asensio would be worth buying and he would suit a team like Liverpool, who like to be on the front foot and press in a ferocious manner.

But the left-footed attacker has a long way to go before he can match Mane’s qualities. The Liverpool player is in a period of his career where he is going to produce his best football, and Liverpool fans need to see his performances at Anfield, not elsewhere.
